LASER SKIN THERAPY

Sun Damage

before and after Sun damage

Consultation

Addressing sun damage through laser therapy starts with a comprehensive consultation. During this session, I evaluate the extent of sun damage on the patient’s skin, discuss specific concerns, and  establish realistic expectations and goals for the treatment.

Pre-Treatment Preparation

Before the procedure, patients receive essential guidance on pre-treatment preparations. This typically includes instructions to avoid sun exposure and to use sunblock regularly, reducing the risk of post-treatment complications. In some cases, a numbing cream or local anesthesia may be applied to enhance patient comfort during the upcoming procedure.

Procedure

The treatment involves the use of a fractional CO2 laser, a specialised device emitting precise beams of light. The term “fractional” highlights that the laser selectively targets only a fraction of the skin’s surface at a time. Microscopic columns of tissue are treated, leaving surrounding areas untouched.

How It Works

The fractional CO2 laser works by stimulating the skin’s natural healing response. Microscopic injuries prompt the production of new collagen and elastin fibers, essential proteins for skin health. This process effectively targets and reduces sun damage, including pigmentation irregularities and textural issues, resulting in a rejuvenated and more even skin tone.

Recovery

Post-procedure, patients may experience mild redness, swelling, and a sensation similar to a sunburn. Recovery times vary, but most individuals can resume regular activities within a week. Adhering to post-treatment care instructions, including the use of prescribed creams and sun avoidance, is crucial for optimal results and to minimise the risk of complications.

Results

The full results of fractional CO2 laser therapy for sun damage may take several weeks to months to become apparent. Patients often notice improvements in pigmentation, texture, and overall skin tone as the skin regenerates and heals.

Follow-Up Sessions

Depending on the severity of sun damage and the desired outcome, multiple treatment sessions may be recommended for optimal results. These sessions are typically spaced several weeks apart, ensuring a gradual and effective approach to addressing sun damage. Regular follow-up sessions contribute to the longevity of the results and help maintain a healthy, revitalised skin appearance.
