Pigmentation

Consultation
During this session, I assess the nature and extent of skin pigmentation issues, discuss the patient’s specific concerns, and establish realistic expectations and goals for the treatment.
Pre-Treatment Preparation
Before the procedure, patients receive important guidance on pre-treatment preparations. This typically includes instructions to avoid sun exposure and to use sunblock regularly, minimising the risk of post-treatment complications. In some instances, a numbing cream or local anesthesia may be applied to enhance patient comfort during the upcoming procedure.
Procedure
The treatment involves the use of a fractional CO2 laser, a specialized device emitting precise beams of light. The term “fractional” denotes that the laser selectively targets only a fraction of the skin’s surface at a time. Microscopic columns of tissue are treated, leaving surrounding areas unaffected.
How It Works
The fractional CO2 laser works by inducing controlled damage to the targeted pigmented areas. This stimulates the body’s natural healing response, prompting the production of new collagen and elastin fibers. As the skin regenerates, pigmentation irregularities are diminished, resulting in a more even and radiant complexion.
Recovery
Post-procedure, patients may experience mild redness, swelling, and a sensation similar to a sunburn. Recovery times vary, but most individuals can resume their regular activities within a week. Strict adherence to post-treatment care instructions, including the use of prescribed creams and sun avoidance, is essential for optimal results and to minimize the risk of complications.
Results
The full results of fractional CO2 laser therapy for skin pigmentation may take several weeks to months to become apparent. Patients often notice a reduction in pigmented spots, improved skin tone, and a more even complexion as the skin continues to regenerate and heal.
Follow-Up Sessions
Depending on the severity of skin pigmentation concerns and the desired outcome, multiple treatment sessions may be recommended for optimal results. These sessions are typically spaced several weeks apart, allowing for a gradual and effective approach to addressing pigmentation irregularities. Regular follow-up sessions contribute to the longevity of the results, ensuring a sustained improvement in skin pigmentation.
